Alpha-H Liquid Gold with Glycolic Acid - review

Every now and then you come across a product and know you've struck gold, and the product goes straight to the HG list. For me, this was one of those products.
I have to thank Jo from Violet Box for this purchase: I'd been thinking of getting it for a while and when it came up on promotion (so you got a free travel size with it) and I had a few points to spend, I asked about it. She couldn't speak highly enough about this product and gave me a few tips on how she uses it, so I decided to go ahead with the purchase.
So glad I did! I liked it so much that I picked up a second one from the Bellabox shop when it was 30 per cent off, and got a further discount by using some points. So thankfully I've got back ups (one full size and one travel size) sitting there for when I get through this one.
Also, what's super cool is that Alpha-H is an Australian brand, so you're buying homegrown. For info on the company, see here.
Alpha-H claims/product details:
- Best selling, 'cult' skin resurfacing treatment
- Uses a state of the art, low pH delivery system to effectively diminish wrinkles, pigmentation and sun damage
- Glycolic-based formulation works like an 'overnight facial' to brighten and revitalise tired, ageing skin
- Radically improves the appearance of the complexion
- For mature, sun damaged, acne-scarred and/or prematurely ageing skin
- Harper's Bazaar Beauty Hot 100 Winner 2013
- RRP $59.95 for 100ml
- Available in the Violet Box shop and also the Bellabox shop
To use: apply onto cleansed skin each alternate evening. Moisten cotton pad with solution and apply to face, neck and décolletage. When the skin is touch-dry, apply your preferred moisturiser or serum. For an intensive treatment, do not follow with a moisturiser or serum.
Verdict
Obviously I reckon this is an amazing product if I've gone out and bought two of them! Honestly, it's wonderful and totally lives up to its claims.
If I ever go for a period without using it, I notice the difference in my skin straight away (it looks older and more tired). When I start using it again, the results are almost instantaneous: my wrinkles are reduced, I look brighter and younger, and my skin feels smoother. It also makes life easier when it comes to makeup application because I'm working with a better canvas.
Thankfully it's gentle enough for me to use - I've tried other glycolic acid products that have left me with red, flaky skin. This one has never done that, except for one time when I accidentally used it three days in a row (and you're not meant to do that). So if like me you have sensitive skin and can't tolerate other glycolic acid products, you may be able to tolerate this one.
Do note that I wouldn't use it with any other harsh or acid-based products or you'll risk irritating your skin. Also, you only need to use a small amount so the bottle should last a while. On top of all that, it's an effective makeup/grime remover - you only need to look at the makeup pad after swiping to see that!
While $60 is a bit to outlay, you can get it for less if you shop around. In any event, I reckon $60 is totally worth it and your skin will be over-mooned by the purchase. As mentioned before on this blog, I'd much rather invest in high quality skincare than I would makeup, since good skin means needing less makeup. Plus I notice the difference between great/ok skincare much more than I do great/ok makeup anyway.
So many ticks for this product! I really hope you get a chance to try it : )
