Maybelline Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24hr Cream Gel Shadow in Edgy Emerald 50 and Painted Purple 20 - review
/

You may remember that I made the mistake of wandering into Priceline a few months ago to buy a Maybelline Fit Me Foundation, only to discover that Priceline was having a half-price sale on all Maybelline products.
Argh!
This is why I've had to put myself on a beauty spending ban!
I of course not only walked out with the foundation, but also its matching powder, a lip shine and these two puppies.
Oh dear.
Anyhoo.
One thing I will say is that I'd always wanted to try these gel shadows, having heard so much about them online. Since they were going for $5.97 each, I suppose it was rather restrained of me to only walk away with two?!?!
I chose Painted Purple and Edgy Emerald because I didn't have those particular two shades in my existing shadow collection (well, not those exact two shades, in any event) and thought they'd be fun for spring/summer. I would actually have preferred to get the bronze and taupe shades (since I have too many brights and not enough naturals, when it comes to eyeshadow); however those two shades didn't look good on me and so I went for these.
Maybelline claims/product details:
- Long lasting
- Ink technology creates super-saturated colour
- Cream gel smooths on for vibrant colour that does not fade
- 24hr wear
- No creasing
- Ophthalmologist tested
- Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers
- For best results: with fingertips, sweep all over eye from inner corner and work outwards; darken as desired
- RRP $11.95 for 4g
Now there's some colour!
Verdict
Yeah, these are great and certainly live up to the hype.
As to product claims, I can't say whether they last 24 hours (I'm far too old for that kind of partying) but they certainly last a long time.
What's amazing about these is that they don't transfer. As a lass with puffy eyes, half my life is spent wiping product from where it shouldn't be - mascara, liner, shadow - because all that rubbing causes not only product transfer, but also fall-out. I don't have that problem with these (praise the lord).
The other thing you can do with these is use them as a base. So if you have an eyeshadow in a similar shade (or not, depending on what look you're going for) to one of these products, swipe the other shadow over the top and these will help the product stay put. Lord praising again.
These gels are super pigmented and blend well. If you ever manage to get through one of the pots before it dries out, I'll eat my shorts: you only need the tiniest amount to punch yourself in the eye with colour.
I haven't tried these shades as eyeliners, but since the products are apparently safe for eyes, you could do that too. And because they're so cheap, you could no doubt easily wind up with a bunch of them and enjoy mixing and matching to make your own colours.
Yep, believe the hype. These don't budge. Hallelujah.
