Mustaev Color Powder Starlight Opal - review

I received this product in Memebox Superbox #73 F/W Natural Makeup, a box that contained a number of decidedly unnatural products (like this glitter dust - my golly).

If you're a fan of glitter you may well like this product because it's quite pretty, but it's not something I would use very often so I'll pass it on now that I've given it a good trial run.

Mustaev claims/product details:
  • A multi-purpose pearl powder
  • A sheer, warm silver
  • High adherence and endurance
  • Micro-sized crease-proof glitter particles
  • Can be used alone as an eyeshadow or mixed with loose powder, lip gloss or cream to add gleaming sophistication to an everyday natural look
  • RRP $22 for 2.5g

I'm guessing I don't need to point out that this is a super sparkly, non 'natural makeup' item?! It does however look like a quality product and I'd almost keep it for that reason alone: it's a good display item.

See swatch below. It really is very pretty - it's just not something I'll use.

Verdict

If this product didn't contain noticeable glitter (but instead was finely milled enough to provide a nice sheen), I might have been quite excited about it: it's a lovely colour for a sheer, inner corner highlight or even a cheek highlight in the evening.

Unfortunately glitter just doesn't work on me and it's certainly not something I was expecting to find in a 'natural makeup' box!

But let's leave that issue aside for a moment and look at the product itself. It's a lovely, fine and sheer dust that you could certainly use on its own or over other products without interfering with the colour, so that claim is true. As you may know, I'm a big fan of multi-purpose products so if you were happy with the glitter factor, you might get a lot of use from this and a little goes a long way so it should last for ages.

The texture is fine and lightweight, but you can tell that it is glitter so it's not particularly creamy and it's a little grainy due to the particles.

It applies well but as is the case with most loose powders, expect fall-out - both during the application process and throughout the day. Whenever I wore this I wound up with glitter where I didn't want it, so I'd suggest using it over a cream product to help with adherence. For this reason, I don't think the 'high adherence and endurance' claim is true.

In sum, this is a pretty product and one that you can work with if you have the time and products on hand, it's just not for me.
