Sukin Hydrating Body Lotion, Lime & Coconut - review

Sukin was half-price at Priceline a while ago and I ended up buying shampoo and conditioner for the kids, bath wash for them and also a new hand wash and hand cream for the kitchen because ours were dead.

We've now been using the hand products for months now and I would like to try to review them both today, although we'll see how that goes because I've got a 1.8 and a 3.5yo home with me all day and things rarely go to plan in that case.

Let's have a look.

Sukin claims/product details:

  • Refreshing lime and coconut aromatics infused with aloe vera, rose hip, avocado and jojoba oils
  • Hydrates skin and works to improve elasticity
  • With an infusion of nettle, horsetail and burdock, your skin's moisture balance is restored and left deeply nourished
  • Helps soothe dry skin
  • RRP $20.99 AUD for 500ml, but do shop around

Verdict

This product is ok but it's not great and I wouldn't buy it again. Also note that it's not that cheap for a body lotion (certainly not by Sukin's standards), and even though you get 500ml, my favourite Nivea body products retail for eight bucks at full price and you get 400ml in those, so this is pretty expensive by comparison and that's something to keep in mind.

It's a white cream and it does smell like lime and coconut, although it's not a particularly 'real' fragrance and do note that it contains parfum - which I wasn't expecting from Sukin so that's something to be aware of if your skin is sensitive to artificial fragrance.

The first thing I always notice about this cream when I use it is that it just doesn't want to rub in. While I wouldn't call it a particularly thick cream, something in the formula doesn't absorb well and I find myself covered in streaks that take some work to massage away. This happens whether I use it on my hands or on my body, and it's one of my pet hates with body creams because I don't have time for all that.

The second thing I notice is that it's a sticky product and my hands and body feel very sticky after use. Perhaps this is part of the reason why it doesn't absorb well. Yes the tackiness does die down after about ten minutes, but my skin continues to feel a little sticky long after I've applied it so that's something to be aware of.

As for whether it works, yes it hydrates and nourishes a little but it certainly doesn't do so as well as my other products, and I'd say that's at least partly because it's sticky and doesn't absorb well. Still, it's not completely useless so I'll continue to use it until it's all gone because it does do something.

Overall this product is ok but I don't love it and I wouldn't recommend it for the reasons I've mentioned. I'll also note again that it's on the expensive side for Sukin so be aware of that because I think you can do better and cheaper than this. The added fragrance worries me too.

Ok.
