Dermaveen Skin Renewal Face Serum - review

Three Dermaveen products were sent to me for review around a month ago, and this was one of them.

While I liked the other two items I was sent (especially the cleanser, reviewed here), this serum doesn't work for me at all and I don't recommend it. It doesn't hydrate, it doesn't absorb properly and it doesn't add anything to my routine. Indeed, it mucks up my routine because nothing can penetrate properly over the top of it. More on that below.

Dermaveen claims/product details:

  • Formulated with natural colloidal oatmeal to nourish and restore dry and sensitive skin
  • Enriched with beta glucan, pro-vitamin B5 and sodium hyaluronate to provide intense hydration for healthy, supple and radiant-looking skin
  • Absorbs to deeply nourish and renew dull and dehydrated skin, while reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Australian-made and dermatologically tested
  • RRP $19.99 AUD for 30ml, but do shop around

Verdict

I so wanted to like this because I liked the two other Dermaveen products we received to review, but unfortunately this serum didn't grab me.

It's a lightweight product that's like a gel in texture but it spreads on contact with skin and becomes almost as thin as water. I love a thin serum so that's a plus, but unfortunately this product doesn't absorb properly.

What I've found while using this is that my skin always feels dry underneath it, although admittedly I have dry skin so you mightn't have this issue if you have normal or oily skin. I think what's happening is that the product isn't sinking in properly; instead it's leaving a slightly sticky, white-coloured coating on my face, which is why it isn't nourishing enough for me personally.

On that, my moisturiser can't penetrate over the top of this so my skin feels dry for the whole day when I use this, which has meant that I started needing to put a lightweight oil down first during the testing period.

Also, a couple of times I tried adding a little more product than I normally would to see if that helped with hydration, but all I found was that this product balled up when I went to put my primer or tinted moisturiser over the top - so do go easy with this or you may have the same issue. It's bloody annoying, and on those two days I needed to clean my face and start from scratch because my makeup looked patchy and didn't adhere. Blurgh.

In sum, this product doesn't work for me and I can't recommend it. It doesn't hydrate properly, it coats my face so nothing can penetrate through it, it leaves my skin feeling dry and it doesn't offer any positive benefits for me personally.

I would avoid this one.
