Bloom Eye Definer in Dark Brown - review

I've no idea how I wound up with this product - it may have been from a subscription box or it may have been a points purchase from Bellabox.
What I do know is that, after using it a few times and discovering how crap it was (sorry Bloom!), it got thrown into the bottom drawer and I might never have used it again except that I've started defining my eyebrows and this is a great colour for that. So once I've finish the pencil I'm using now as part of my Project Pan, this one's next on the chopping block.
I still do use eyeliners if I wind up with them in subscription boxes, but all but the best ones are headed for the present stash. Gels of course fare better, but I prefer a softer line and shadows/decent pencils are much better for that.
Here's a swatch taken in natural, indirect light. The smudge is what happens when you wipe it 30 seconds after application.
Here's another taken outside in direct sunlight. I wiped it lightly on the left after a minute, and on the right after about ten minutes. So you can see that it doesn't stay put!
Bloom claims/product details:
- Soft, creamy texture
- Satin smooth
- Perfect for defining the eyes
- A special blend of natural fruit waxes provides super staying power
- Its texture means application is effortless
- Dark brown is described as a 'dark chocolate brown'
- RRP $24
- For more information, see Bloom's website
The above shot was taken just after application. You can see it's already starting to transfer.
The below was taken ten minutes after application: it's not faring well at all!
Below is what happens ten minutes after being applied to the waterline. The lines were super thick to start with: they're not now!
Verdict
Obviously I'm not a fan of this product - for good reason. It promises super staying power and doesn't deliver at all. Indeed, it's one of the crapper eyeliners I've tried and it costs $24! I've used cheaper pharmacy brands that are light-years better than this one.
It's true that eyeliners can be tricky for those of us with issues like puffy eyes (or if you have particularly oily eyelids). You can sometimes get around this if you can be bothered setting the product with a powder, but I find even that doesn't help this one much - and good luck on your waterline (!).
Puffy eyes aside, this obviously isn't a good product because it smudges with the tiniest wipe of the finger, even after it's been left to dry for a while.
Rubbish. Avoid. Thank god I can use it as an eyebrow pencil, so it doesn't go completely to waste.
