Elemental Herbology Cell Food Radiance & Vitality Serum - review

I sampled this serum a couple of times before buying it last year. Back then it cost $84 AUD instead of its current RRP of $100 (!!!), which was about the price I expected to pay for a great serum and I already knew that it agreed with my skin a lot more than many other serums I'd tried - even the super expensive ones.
I'd been saving it because I had another serum I wanted to finish first before I opened this one, and I've now been using it for around a month.
Since my skin really loves it and I've wanted to watch its effects over time, I've only been using it on my face and I've been using a different serum on my neck and dec to make this one last longer.
I haven't yet noticed cumulative effects with this product over time, but I will update this post if that changes. I suspect it won't because few products manage to have a huge and lasting impact, but you never know and this product is good enough that I may yet see something more than the immediate benefits it delivers.
- Cult-favourite radiance serum that reduces pigmentation, balances the complexion and hydrates the skin
- Helps boost radiance and vitality
- Softens and conditions
- Contains a ‘power house’ of proteins, vitamins and anti-oxidants that help soothe and calm sensitive skin
- Ideal for dull, under-nourished skin and frequent travellers
- Nourishes the skin without congesting it
- Boosts the skin to protect against pollution
- To use: apply every morning and evening after cleansing
- RRP $100 AUD for 30ml (yikes! I paid $84 not so long ago!)
The packaging is fancy and makes the product look luxe. It comes with a dropper (see below), and while the dropper is a good idea in theory because it helps control the amount of product you use each time, I've seen so many reviewers say that it eventually stops reaching the product towards the end of the jar so you have to upend the bottle to get the serum out when there's still plenty left.
Also, while droppers can make consumers feel that the product is concentrated, special and 'scientific' (so I understand why they're often used when they don't need to be), a simple pump is much easier to use and less hassle overall. Plus pumps prevent the contents from being exposed to air, while this dropper arrangement means you're letting air into the bottle with each use. As many other reviewers have commented, I would much prefer a pump for this product.
I'm really picky with my serums so the fact that I settled on this one - after testing so many - says a lot about this product in itself.
It's a thin, lightweight serum that's white in colour and has a faint, fresh scent that's not overpowering so it shouldn't bother most people who don't like scented products.
It absorbs and spreads well, and a little goes a long way so the bottle should last a good while. I do find that thinner serums like this one work best for my skin, in part because I feel like they're really being absorbed and in part because they don't interfere with the efficacy of my moisturiser but instead enhance it.
What I also love about this serum is that it leaves my face looking brighter and fresher, and it smooths out my skin so I need less of my moisturiser and foundation when I use this. Plus I feel like it's doing good things for my complexion in terms of making it look and feel more even.
On the product claims: yes it balances and hydrates the skin; it does help boost radiance and vitality; it definitely soothes and calms; and it does nourish the skin without congesting it. I also find that it leaves my skin feeling plump, soft and supple, but I haven't noticed any impact on pigmentation yet so I'm not sure whether it evens out the complexion over time.
As mentioned above, the only thing I don't like about the product is the dropper arrangement because I think a pump would be better, but otherwise I love it and believe that it meets all its claims. It definitely leaves my skin more radiant and glowy, and it adds something to my skincare routine where many products don't.
Love. A best-seller for a reason : )
