Lanolips 101 Ointment Multi-Balm in Green Apple - review

Lanolips was recently on promotion at one of the big online retailers so I jumped at the opportunity because I'm low on lip balms and have chronically dry lips, so I bought a couple of these for fourteen bucks and received two full-sized tinted Lanolips balms for my troubles.

Yes it was a good deal, but unfortunately neither this nor the tinted product is the kind of lip balm I'm after and while I'll certainly use them, my hunt for the perfect lip balm continues. More on that below.

Do note that I've reviewed Lanoplips' Lemonaid Lip Aid (see here) but that review was written in the old days when my product notes were a lot shorter than they are now.

I do remember feeling that the Lemonaid was a good treatment product but it wasn't that hydrating, and I feel the same about this: yes it works ok as a lip balm but it's not great and I think it's better for other things.

Verdict

This isn't a bad product but I don't love it as a lip balm and I bought it to be my dedicated lip balm so that's a bit annoying. Still, it's a multipurpose product so I can certainly find other uses for it.

It's a yellow balm and it absolutely smells like green apple, which is happily a scent I enjoy. The texture is quite thick and slippery, and it does leave a heavy coating on the skin so that's something to be aware of.

When I apply it to my lips, I experience a faint tingling sensation so I do agree that it has a very slight exfoliating effect - which may be good for some but I've learned over time that I'm not a fan of anything that tingles or stings my lips. I just find products like that to be irritating, and while this isn't as irritating as some, it's not something I can stand having on my lips for long periods of time. Perhaps my lips are more sensitive than I realised.

It's also a very slippery balm and that's not how I like my lip products to be. Anything that's too waxy, too greasy or too slippery doesn't float my boat, and while this isn't greasy or waxy, it's definitely more slippery than most.

Also, it's not very hydrating. I wonder whether that's because the tingling aspect is drying my lips out so I can't tell whether it might be hydrating on other people, but it definitely doesn't nourish my lips the way I need it to.

Thankfully, though, I can use this on my cuticles to nourish those and it's also a great product for my permanently dry feet. I often experience dry, flaky heels, and this product has helped manage that issue so my tootsies are now feeling more smooth and comfortable.

As for claims, I won't go into those too much because I haven't been able to use this on my lips as much as I would have liked, but it has been a good product for dealing with dry skin on other areas (feet, knees, cuticles, elbows etc) so I agree that it's a multipurpose balm and I suspect that most people will be able to find some use for it.

Ok but not a repurchase for me.
