Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Mask - review

Next up in my reviews of the Omorovicza set I bought (unboxed here) is this Deep Cleansing Mask.

Unfortunately it's the product I like the least from the set (the Thermal Cleansing Balm is the other one that I found a bit meh; I've reviewed that here) and the full-size costs a whopping $112 AUD so I definitely wouldn't buy it.

Still, at least the two products I don't love of the five are only 15ml in size - the others are all 30ml - so happily I've managed to pick the smaller ones for the bottom of my list!

I should probably say from the outset that I'm very picky with my face masks and always have been - even pickier than I am with my other skincare, and that's saying something ; )

I think my issue is that if I'm going to apply something and leave it on for 20 minutes or so before washing it off, then it really needs to be worth my time (unlike eg a moisturiser, which you can whack on in under a minute and forget about).

Also, I have dry skin so a lot of clay masks can really dry me out, making me even more picky than eg someone with normal skin. So do factor that into my comments on this product: I'm hard to impress when it comes to masks.

Omorovicza claims/product details:
  • Much more than a deep-cleansing treatment, this calcium and magnesium-rich mask clears congested pores and brightens tone as it draws out impurities
  • Deeply cleanses and nourishes the skin with Hungarian Moor Mud
  • Purifies the skin without leaving it taut
  • Draws out toxins and impurities while naturally absorbing pore-clogging oil with white clay
  • Skin is left firmer, more supple and younger-looking as Hydro Mineral Transference™ delivers minerals deep into the skin
  • RRP $112 AUD for 50ml

Verdict

I don't have a hell of a lot to say about this product because it hasn't done much for me so this will be a brief review.

It's a standard-looking clay mask with that familiar Omorovicza spa mud scent. It's quite a thin product and you can get away with using less (I've tried using a thin layer and a thicker one, and for me they do the same thing) so at least the full size should last a good while.

I've been using this around once a week since I bought it: I wouldn't use a mud mask any more than that on my dry skin, although you could probably use it more often if your skin is oily. I apply a thin layer, leave it there for around 20 minutes and then wash it off.

What's good about this product is that it doesn't feel uncomfortable as it dries down. With some mud masks, they leave my dry skin feeling bloody awful as they dry but this doesn't do that, so that's a plus.

Also in this product's favour is that it doesn't dry out my skin so my face never feels tight or uncomfortable after use. Indeed, my skin is drier than usual this morning and while I would never usually apply a mud mask in those circumstances, today I went ahead and used this anyway and I'm pleased to report that it didn't make matters worse. Another plus.

The problem, though, is that it doesn't really do anything for me. Yes my skin looks a little brighter after use and yes it feels a touch more refreshed, but I've used budget masks that do the same thing so I certainly wouldn't pay over a hundred dollars for this product.

On the claims: no I don't think this does much in terms of deep-cleansing or clearing congested pores; no I don't think it nourishes my skin or draws out toxins and impurities; and no I don't think it leaves my skin feeling firmer or more supple, or looking younger.

Overall I don't hate this product but I don't love it either because it doesn't do much for me. If you're after a cheaper alternative, I recommend Alpha-H's Balancing & Pore Refining Mask with Jojoba (reviewed here): I find that one a lot more effective than this and you can buy it for around $30 AUD for a huge 100ml.

Not for me.
