Figs & Rouge Lip Balm in Cherry Blossom - review

I received this product ages ago from Glossybox Deutsch when we were living in Berlin. Although it's not a product I'd normally reach for (I prefer glosses with more colour), I've kept it on my dresser because the packaging is so gorgeous.
Over the past week I've dusted it off and used it again so I could review it based on something other than how it looks (!). It's definitely a lovely product - it's just not one that I'll use for much more than eye candy ; )
Figs & Rouge claims/product details:
- 100% pure and natural
- Nourishing and soothing for all skin types
- Long lasting and hydrating
- Moisture protection
- Packed with natural anti-oxidants, plant oils, omega fatty acids and deeply penetrating skin conditioners
- Keeps lips super soft throughout the day
- RRP $9.55 for 12.5ml
- See Figs & Rouge website for more details
See above and below swatches. I haven't done a lip shot because this colour doesn't show up on my lips, but if you have pale lips you might get a slight tint from it (some lasses do). It's basically clear on me and just adds a nice shine.
Verdict
This is a lovely little product that ticks plenty of boxes, but I'm having to apply an objective eye to it because it doesn't meet my personal preferences, despite its quality.
First, the smell: I hate fake fruitiness, and I'm smelling fake fruit. It's too sherbety and sweet for me, but I've seen reviews where people rave about the scent - so that's just me!
Second, the colour - or lack thereof. As mentioned I prefer glosses with at least a bit of colour, and while this does have some, it's not enough for my lips. But it does show up on some, so if you have paler lips you might really like the tint this offers.
Third, the packaging: it's just gorgeous to look at but I prefer glosses that aren't in tubes (I like applicators). That's all personal preference too.
Finally, the texture: I actually like this about it. It's hydrating and creamy without being sticky, so it doesn't feel like one of those tacky cheap glosses on your lips; it feels lovely on.
As for claims, it's definitely hydrating and nourishing, but I haven't found it to be particularly long lasting. Granted, it sticks around a bit longer than most glosses, but I don't think you can give it a 'long lasting' tag. There's a bundle of it on my coffee mug as we speak (and not so much left on my lips), and I only just applied it. Still, you generally can't expect much more from glosses/balms I reckon, so it doesn't lose any quality points there.
I also like that it's a natural product (and it does feel like one) and I think it's reasonably priced.
Recommended for those with different preferences to mine!
