Lancome L'Absolu Nu Lipstick in #201 Beige De Soie - review

This is one of those products that fell in my lap because it was floating around my parents' house and no one could remember whom it belonged to. It may well have been mine because I'm the Lancome fan in the family and it's not unusual that I'll receive Lancome gift packs at Christmas.

Anyway. I was happy to accept it because I'm on a no buy and need to keep sourcing products to review. You may also have seen that I chucked it onto my Project Pan 2015 list, just because I don't like it that much and wanted to move it out of circulation (plus I'm not sure how old it is, so I want to use it sooner rather than later).

Lancome claims/product details:
  • A superb, lightweight textured lipstick
  • Formulated with Pro-Xylane™ to deliver moisture for up to 8 hours
  • Enriched with enhancing pigments to create suppler and replenished lips
  • Offers luminous and glamorous colour
  • Colour is magnified thanks to vivid pigments
  • Natural light is intensified due to unique mother of pearls and is re-emitted outwards
  • The pulp of the lips is revived thanks to fragments of sparkling pearls
  • As light and subtle as lace
  • Wraps the lips in a veil of colour for lasting comfort
  • The Nu Light Inside complex recreates and enhances natural light for perfect lips
  • RRP $50 for 4.2ml, but do shop around

And on my lips. It's a very, very sheer product. On me there's basically no colour.

Verdict

Unfortunately I didn't think much of this lipstick at all. That's unusual for me when it comes to Lancome products - I generally really like them.

The colour was non-existent on me but that hasn't impacted this overall review because I didn't choose the colour (so I wasn't expecting anything from it) and it might show up nicely on some.

My issue was with the formula. While it felt moisturising on, it did tend to dry my lips out and you can see from the lip swatch above that the product accentuates lines. It's also so sheer that I have to apply a lot of it to even feel like I'm wearing lipstick, and it seems to melt a bit with the heat of your lips too. This is probably one of the reasons why it slips off after all of about two seconds: it's easily one of the worst lipsticks I've used in a while when it comes to staying power. I'd expect much more from a high-end brand and a lipstick that costs as much as this one does.

That's really all there is to say. I won't bother with looking at the fluffy product claims - this lipstick doesn't last, costs an arm and a leg, and it's drying. Who wants that?
