A Happy a Day: Happy Skincare's TLC Intensive Repair Oil
/
0 Comments
I think we're up to day five! I'm not sure how many products I have left to review; I won a Happy Skincare pack in a Lust Have It competition (which is actually the only competition I've ever won) and the majority of that pack has been hiding away in a cool dark place for when I'm done using the Eslor products I currently have on the go (review coming soon). Lucky me : ).
Anyhoo. If you'd like some background on Happy Skincare, see my first post in this series here. You'll see my last few Happy posts in the archives in the right panel of this blog, if you're interested in reviewing those - they've all been done within the last week.
So let's have a look at the TLC Intensive Repair Oil, which I'm currently using on any part of my body that's rapidly expanding with pregnancy (most of it hehe). Interestingly, Happy notes that this oil started its life as a custom 'potion' for a lady undergoing chemotherapy who was struggling with incredibly dry skin and wanted an all-natural, ultra-gentle moisturiser that she could use instead of sorbolene cream. A nice story : )
Happy claims/product details:
- An ultra gentle all-body moisturising oil, especially for distressed or dehydrated skin
- Helps reduce the appearance of scars and stretchmarks
- 100% natural, 95% organic, vegan
- Free from mineral oil, additives, fragrances and even essential oils to reduce the risk of causing a reaction for the most sensitive skin
- Super-fast absorption means you won’t feel like an oil slick or get oil stains on your clothes
- Delivers and locks in moisture while allowing your skin to breathe
- Packed full of anti-oxidants and essential fatty acids
- Preservative free
- Recommended by physiotherapists for scar care
- Contains only eight ingredients, each one specifically chosen for its ability to care for distressed skin
- Improves skin by: nourishing and strengthening; hydrating and protecting; repairing and regenerating; soothing and restoring balance
- RRP $29.70 for 100ml
- Australian owned and made
- Not tested on animals
- Available here
Verdict
Funnily enough, now that I've researched this oil for this post, I'm more interested in it! While I like using it and it does the job well (yes it's definitely nourishing/hydrating etc and absorbs nicely), it hasn't been a stand-out oil for me when it comes to the Happy range - I prefer the Organic Tamanu Oil and the Black Cumin Seed Oil (see my reviews on those here and here respectively).
I couldn't say exactly why I prefer those other two oils - it may even come down to something as simple as the smell (isn't it amazing how much we can be guided by our senses in that respect?). I suppose that when, as is the case here, all the oils I've used from a brand do the job well, it can be hard to separate them - but smell is a defining factor. It's not that I don't like the smell of the TLC oil - it's just that I prefer the others. I think I also prefer the texture of the Organic Tamanu Oil, which is thicker and richer. But I can't say for sure that any of these three oils works better on my skin.
Also, since I'm lucky enough not to have any skin conditions (fingers crossed!) apart from occasional dryness, there probably isn't too much else to define them. But if you look at the reviews of this product on the Happy website (see here), you'll see that this oil is the favourite of those who've eg undergone chemo or have extra sensitive skin. So if that's you, I urge you to give this a go!
That's all from me on this one. While I'd still prefer to reach for the Black Cumin Seed Oil on a daily basis, since I can't use that during pregnancy, this is currently the Happy oil for me!
Lovely.
