SebaMed Liquid Face & Body Wash - review

I received this cleanser a while ago from a subscription box, and since it didn't look that exciting, it's one of those products that sat around for a while before I opened it.
Happily it's been a pleasant surprise: it's earned a firm place as my morning cleanser and I use it each day without fail, and it's one of those rare cleansers that somehow manages to be extra gentle while still doing a great job of cleansing my skin.
SebaMed claims/product details:
- With a pH value of 5.5, the same pH of healthy skin
- Gently cleanses deep into pores, without drying out the skin
- Biological protection from body odour
- An effective moisturising complex, containing essential skin-related amino acids, vitamins and lecithin, promotes the moisture-retaining capacity of your skin
- The pH value of 5.5 maintains the balance of the acid mantle's hydro-lipid system and its protective barrier function against damaging environmental influences
- Vitamin e scavenges free-radicals
- 100% soap and alkali-free
- Paraben-free
- Ideal for sensitive skin
- Dermatologically and clinically tested: if you have a skin disease or soap intolerance, you can use this product as a therapy-supportive skincare
- RRP $17.95 for 500ml or $25.50 AUD for 1L, but do shop around
It's a rather unassuming product in its little white bottle - which, let's face it, wouldn't win any packaging beauty pageants ; )
The cleanser itself is blue-green in colour:
Verdict
I'm really enjoying this cleanser - a lot more than I thought I would and so much so that I may well buy it once I've gotten through a few of the cleansers I have on hand.
It's a blue-green gel that smells slightly soapy and clean, and the texture feels quite rich - velvety and smooth - against the skin. Indeed, the texture is one of the reasons why I'm enjoying it so much: it just feels nice and so it's a pleasure to use.
I've tried it at night just to see whether it works at removing makeup, and I was surprised to find that it does - much better than other gentle cleansers I've used. It won't do that well when it comes to waterproof mascara unless you jump in the shower and double-cleanse with warm water, but even dedicated makeup removers struggle with eye makeup so it doesn't lose points on that front.
Otherwise it does a great job of removing makeup and grime, and I'm always surprised to see how much gunk it dissolves, given how gentle it is. Nevertheless I prefer to use it first thing in the morning, because it seems better-suited for that position and I have other cleansers I tend to use at night.
As for claims: I do think it cleans well without drying the skin; I do think it's great for sensitive skin; and it does seem to have a soothing, protective effect because it leaves my skin feeling baby soft and never stripped.
All in all, this is a great cleanser and I recommend it. I've had a look online and it doesn't seem that popular, but the few reviews I've read have been glowing so I do hope that more people discover it in future. Plus it's not too expensive, so I have no complaints!
Lovely, and one I plan on buying once mine has run out.
