SkinYoga Sandalwood & Saffron Face Mask - review
/
0 Comments
This is my last product up for review out of the three SkinYoga items I recently received from Lust Have It. If you're interested, I've reviewed the Oats & Roses Face Wash here and the Almond & Orange Face Scrub here.
I think this Sandalwood Saffron Face Mask is probably the best of the three, in part because it makes more of a 'paste' than the other two, and in part because it's the one I've enjoyed using the most. The face wash was a bad product to be honest, and while the face scrub was ok, it's not one I look forward to using. This face mask is a little better, although I don't love it and I wouldn't buy it.
One thing to note about each of these products is that I've had issues with particles getting into my eyes. I'm not sure why this happens with these when it never has with other dry, powdered products that require mixing, but I wonder if some of the particles are so light and fine that they travel absolutely everywhere.
I don't think I've ever used one of these products and not wound up with bits in my eyes. It's annoying, and it's definitely something to be aware of. It's not that I put them anywhere near the area and my eyes are of course closed when I use them, but I think that water pushes the product around when it comes to washing them off. So try to keep these away from your eye area if you can!
SkinYoga claims/product details:
- For anti-ageing and fairness
- The goodness of sandalwood will reverse the signs of ageing and gradually remove wrinkles and dark spots
- Saffron will improve skin texture and also naturally make skin lighter and more radiant
- The anti-oxidants found in walnuts are essential to skin regeneration and elasticity; walnuts also include chemicals that help boost circulation, bringing oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells quickly
- To use: take one teaspoon of mask powder and add few drops of water to make a thick paste; apply on your face and neck, leaving the eye area; after it dries completely, gently massage and rinse with plain water
- RRP $30 AUD for 50g
Verdict
I noted this with the face scrub and I'll mention it here too: when you mix this with water, it doesn't really make a paste - at least not as I understand the word. While this product makes something closer to a paste than the scrub (which forms a clumpy, watery mixture and doesn't spread well over your face), this one does clump a little too so you need to work at spreading it over your entire face and making sure it's all covered.
It's a rich-coloured, grainy powder that smells like walnuts. When you apply it to the skin, I find that it sits on the surface of the face and it's hard to imagine that anything in the product is sinking in and doing anything for your complexion.
As it dries down, my skin does get a little tight and uncomfortable. The aforementioned scrub can also be used as a mask, and while that one made my face more uncomfortable than this product does, it's still worth mentioning the tightness because you mightn't like the sensation.
When it comes to massaging the product into the face and washing it off, it is a little scratchy and not everyone will like that, so you may prefer to skip the massage step and just wash it off. If I do massage it, my skin does look a little brighter and feel a little smoother after use, but that's more to do with massaging the grains across my face than it is to do with the product itself: I don't notice any difference in my skin if I skip the massage part and just wash it off with water.
In sum, this isn't a terrible product but I don't recommend it. It just doesn't do enough and I expect results if I'm going to go to the trouble of mixing something, applying it carefully so it covers my face, waiting for it to dry, then massaging it before removing it. That's a long process for one product and I don't think this one's worth the hassle.
A pity, because I do love the SkinYoga packaging!
