Antipodes Worship Skin Defence Antioxidant Serum - review
/
0 Comments
I need to introduce a couple of Project Dent items this weekend before we go away, but before I do that I need to review this serum because I've only got a few applications left.
Long story short, it's not a bad product but it hasn't done much for me and I think Antipodes does a better serum. In my experience the oil-based ones are a lot nicer than the water-based ones, but of course that comes down to personal preference.
You may remember that I bought a tonne of Antipodes products early last year and since then I've been opening and reviewing them in turn.
This serum and the day cream I'm using are the last two, and after that I may well buy the few products I haven't yet tried from the brand before moving on to explore another range (Trilogy is next on my list).
Overall Antipodes is probably the best 'pharmacy' skincare brand I've tried to date and while it's not the cheapest brand lining the shelves at Priceline, it's not expensive and of course you can always wait for those massive Priceline sales and stock-up at low prices. Definitely a good way to do it.
Antipodes claims/product details:
- Fortify skin cells against early ageing and free radical damage with this water-based serum accenting the antioxidant potency of New Zealand-grown superfruit
- Boysenberry, blackcurrant, kiwifruit and revolutionary antioxidant Vinanza Grape from grape seeds are extracted with a technique using only pure water for high natural bioactivity and no chemical residue
- With shots of coffee berry, acai and the essential fatty acid alpha lipoic acid (ALA), this is a supreme daily organic skin booster
- In-vitro laboratory tests show Worship inhibits oxidative stress by up to 90 per cent
- Certified vegetarian, certified organic
- Suited to most skin conditions
- RRP $53.99 AUD for 30ml, but do shop around
Verdict
This is the third water-based serum I've tried from Antipodes so far and to be honest they're all very similar and none of them does much for me. If you're interested, I've reviewed the Apostle Serum here and the Hosanna Serum here.
This one's a thin, watery product that's super lightweight - so if you prefer thinner serums like I do, it might appeal. It's orange-brown in colour and it smells like fruit, but in a natural way so it's not a smell that bothers me.
I like that the product spreads well so a little goes a long way, but I'm not sure how well it absorbs - which of course would affect what it's actually doing for my skin (not much).
I've been using this at least once a day (often twice) for around three months now, and I think that if it were going to offer any cumulative benefits over time, it would have done so by now. So it's safe to say that this hasn't done anything for my skin.
Probably my biggest issue with it is that it's not hydrating in the slightest (which is something I look for because my skin is dry), but even worse, it also feels drying on my skin and it dries me out and leaves my face feeling uncomfortable unless I go in with an oil or heavy moisturiser afterwards.
It also leaves my skin feeling tight as it dries down and there's something almost powdery about the finish that I don't like. So I personally wouldn't recommend this for dry skin and I'll be glad to finish my bottle because it doesn't leave my face feeling great after use.
There's not a lot to comment on in the product claims but I can say that it hasn't had any anti-ageing effect for me personally and I also wouldn't call it a 'supreme daily organic skin booster'.
What I will say though is that there may be a place for something like this if you don't have dry skin. I've certainly seen some positive reviews of the product online (see eg Priceline or Adore Beauty) so it obviously works for some people but it just doesn't gel with my skin.
If you want an Antipodes alternative for this serum I personally would recommend either the Joyous Serum (reviewed here) or the Chia & Kiwi Seed Serum (reviewed here), both of which are oil-based and perfect for dry skin.
Not for me.
