Thalgo Cold Cream Marine, Nutri Soothing Cream - review

I included this travel-sized face cream in my recent sample post (see here), and while I mentioned in that post that I wasn't planning to review it, I've changed my mind because this little 15ml pot has lasted me six weeks of daily use now so I've definitely got enough to say about it.

Long story short, I really like it! And it's the only product I can remember trying from Thalgo so perhaps it's a brand I should do some research on. Do let me know in the comments whether you've used much from Thalgo and what you recommend if so.

Thalgo claims/product details:

  • Designed for normal-dry, sensitive skin
  • Replenishes lipids while soothing and repairing throughout the day
  • Infused with organic white lupin extract
  • Enriched with a soothing biomimetic Lipopeptide, which improves the skin's tolerance to external aggressors
  • Wrapped in a silky cocoon, the skin's natural balance is restored
  • For dry skin with sensations of tingling, overheating and diffused redness
  • Effectively replenishes, soothes and repairs all dry and sensitive skin for guaranteed comfort for up to 24 hours
  • RRP $65 AUD for 50ml, but do shop around

Verdict

This is a great little moisturiser and I'm glad I've tried it. As mentioned above, I haven't tried much from Thalgo - but if this cream is anything to go by, then perhaps it's a brand worth exploring.

It's a rich, white cream with a soft fragrance that reminds me of the ocean. It spreads and applies well, although it's pretty thick so I find that I need to use quite a bit per application.

Despite this, my 15ml sample has lasted me six weeks of daily use - so I think the full size would be reasonable value and it would last a decent amount of time.

I've tried this cream in three different ways: for the first two weeks I used it as my overnight cream, then as my night cream for the second two weeks and then as my day cream for the last two weeks. It works well in all positions, although I probably prefer it as my overnight cream because it leaves a protective film on the skin that seals in my other products and keeps my face feeling hydrated until morning.

And while it does work ok as a day cream, I would still recommend it for night use because it coats the skin and it mightn't sit well with all makeup. Yes it's been fine with my makeup, but I don't wear much so that might have something to do with it.

On the claims: yes it's good for dry skin; yes it's soothing and replenishing; yes it has a protective element (due to the coating it leaves behind) and yes it helps with sensations of tingling or overheating. It's a good one to apply after you've done a chemical mask or peel for that reason.

Overall I really enjoy this product and while I mightn't rush out and buy it, it's a good moisturiser and you can find it for less than $50 AUD so it's certainly not the most expensive product on the market. It's good for dry skin and it has certainly helped nurse my skin through the turn of seasons.

Decent.
