Jurlique Rose Love Balm - review

I've been meaning to review this product for ages but it's kept falling off the list.
Part of the reason for this is that I've wanted to give it a complete review so I've made sure to try it for different things, but it's also because I've managed to get myself so behind on review posts lately that I'm well behind the eight ball.
I shall live.
I bought this when Jurlique was on promo at Adore Beauty. From memory you could buy any two products and receive a full-sized hand cream, so I bought two of these balms because they weren't super expensive and I was interested in trying more from the brand.
As soon as I opened this balm, I sent the second one straight to the gift pile. I knew immediately that it wasn't for me: it stinks of rose to the point that I can't tolerate it on my lips, and it also travels inside the mouth and I don't like the strong rose taste of it either.
I'm sure others would be ok with something like this, but I also reckon I'm not the only one who can't handle having this strong rose fragrance in my mouth. Yikes.
Jurlique claims/product details:
- A natural salve infused with the natural scent of roses
- Moisturises, softens and protects dry or chapped skin
- A multipurpose, all over face and body balm
- Use on lips, cuticles, dry patches
- Protects against moisture loss
- Provides antioxidant protection
- Also protects exposed areas from wind and cold, making it ideal for year-round use
- Can be applied to elbows, knees, feet and hands - just about anywhere skin needs some extra loving care
- RRP $16 AUD for 15ml
Verdict
If you really love the smell (and taste) of rose, then you might really love this - but for me it's just too much and I don't enjoy using it.
It's a clear balm that's housed in a sweet little tin. It has a light, thin texture and a little goes a long way, so if you were just going to use this as a lip balm, it would probably last you a good while.
But I don't like this on my lips. Aside from the pungent rose scent that's too much for me and winds up in my mouth, it's one of those slippery balms that falls off the lips very quickly and I also don't feel that it's nourishing enough for me personally - although perhaps that's partly because it doesn't stay on my lips long enough to do anything.
Thankfully you can use it for other things, which I'm happy about because I certainly didn't want to send a $16 lip balm to the declutter pile.
I've used it in the evenings on my cuticles and it does work well for that purpose, but I wouldn't recommend it over the balms you can buy from the chemist for a few bucks. Any paw paw ointment would do the same thing for a lot less, and may also contain more product so it would last you longer.
I've also tried it on my dry feet, knees and elbows, and I do like it for that because it helps soften and nourish dry skin and also wards off flaking - but again, you don't need to buy something that costs this much to do that job and I wouldn't say this is any more effective than its cheaper counterparts.
Overall I don't like this product and I've given it a 'disappointing products' tag. The smell and taste are just too strong for something that's meant to go on your lips (at least for me), and while it does deal with dry body skin well, you don't need to spend $16 on a small tin of product that you'll burn through in a flash.
Not for me.
